Draperies And Window Coverings

Window coverings are typically not a subject most people talk about unless they are in the design business. Often it stirs up confusion, images of window coverings done wrong and conjures up images of bent, dusty, vinyl venetian blinds with a pink flowery half-curtain at the top known as a valance. Today, however, window coverings have evolved in style, accessories and versatility. Interior designers have paved the way for advances in window coverings to ensure that not only are they practical but stylish as well.
Window coverings can easily be broken into four main categories: Shades, Blinds, Drapes and Curtains, and Shutters. Each type of window covering has its own benefits and drawbacks. Depending on the style of the room where window treatments are needed, the role they need to play in the room (i.e. privacy, style, light reduction/increase) and the versatility of the treatment that is needed, will determine which type of treatment to use.
